Here I will keep posts on my experiments and plant rescue/growth/ and or failures..

I don't really have much of a green thumb. but I do like to see if I can salvage otherwise plants that are being discarded or mistreated. I have a few successes and a few failures, but I will continue to see what I can and can't accomplish in the horticultural realm. All rescues except for the Pineapple..That I am trying to grow myself.

Common: Canna Lilly
Botanical: Canna x Generalis
Started with 1 plant a year ago, now have 7. Success!

Pineapple started:6/13/23
potted: 6/26/23

Common: Inchplant
Botanical: Tradescantia Zebrina
Started out with three cuttings, now have around 12..Success!

Grafting / trimming/ training project of the Desert Rose I have. follow along  here

So I did a thing today..lol. I came across a post on FB marketplace from a woman that had sold her house and moved to a boat. She was offering some plants for free and I figured that was right up my ally and good timing seeing as how I just started my plant journey. Originally I was going after a very large Aloe she had but when I arrived I found it to be several momma plants in a planter in which there were several other medium sized pups in there as well. Figured Ok, I can divide and propagate those fairly easy and have several more than expected. Well within 15 minutes she had completely loaded up my car. See the blog post for the rest of the story.. Long story short.. I ended up with a complete garden...lol.

The big Aloe in the center was my original target..see updated post here

Remember this from before.. Ya I started with these two small canter-pots with only these 4 or 5 sprigs/clippings from a found plant along a walkway in the neighborhood about a year ago.. This is now what I have looming in my backyard against the house..

in addition to 2 new potted ones that are taking off splendidly.

Honestly did not think they would survive the first year due to weather and constant lawn mowings and being torn up with weed trimmers, etc. But apparently this is a hardy breed, as it continues to spread like crazy.. I guess the trick to these are frequent trimmings and just let them do there thing.

Update: 6/5/2025

One of my many Mexican Mint plants. "Coleus amboinicus" Also goes by many ther names... to many to list actually so its a Mexican mint tome..lol.

This thing is out of control yet again...This will be the 4th time I have trimmed this back in the past two years, as it encroches the entrance area to the house, only good thing is I get to start new ones with each trimming.. easy to propagate. Love the leaf pattern associated with this plant, also has that real earthy fragrance with the hint of mint. Makes an oily mess though in the kitchen as it can be used for medicinal and or flavoring purposes. It is non toxic to us humans, but not so much for pets.. keep it away from them..
Well, needless to say, she got a haircut today.. managed to start another 6 plants, could have done many more, but one can only handle so many as they grow rapidly and unless I have some locals that want some starters, I kept it to the 6..
