Contacted the finance company that held the loan on the Jeep today.. Was assured having surrendered it back to the dealership where it was purchased and surrendering the plates back to the state, I am now free and clear of any financial responsibility toward or on the Jeep. Was told that a letter was forthcoming stating as much and that our business together had been concluded. 

They were actually nice and a pleasure to deal with throughout the ownership, etc. Made it really easy to return the vehicle, no questions asked, and the loan closure was as simple as agreeing to a formal statement via text message.

So it is done, finite, gonzo.. no more obligation or paying for finance and repairs..
